Hotels and Motels
If you are going to be visiting one of the Palmetto Gun Club Ranges (Ridgeville or Givhans) for a match then this is offered to provide you assistance in locating accommodations that are close and convenient to our ranges. To me, if I was a stranger to our area the preferred area to stay would be at the intersection of Highway 17A and I-26 at Exit 199. This location is on the way to either range and is very convenient and is densely populated with motels, restaurants and major shopping areas.
In the general area of Summerville and the Highway 17A/I-26 centerpoint there is a mixing of numerous municipalities and their boundary lines. You will see addresses showing Ladson, Goose Creek and Charleston. The reference to Charleston is really the city of "North Charleston". This may be confusing to new visitors. Exit 199 is undergoing construction so please observe the signs and drive carefully.
The Palmetto Gun Club Match Directors may have made arrangements with a designated hotel/motel and designated that as "host" accommodations for the match, if so, that may make it easier for you.
The following is the quick and easy way to find accommodations for the Summerville area and it works for any location you might want to visit and may want advance reservations.
Obviously if you are reading this then you are using your computer and can access the internet. Print this sheet and then using your computer and the Internet let’s go looking.
Type in http://www.mapquest.com
When the Map Quest page finishes loading, look to the upper right on the screen and click on "Yellow Pages" on the header bar or the "Yellow Pages" Icon.
You are now on the Map Quest, Yellow Page. In the location box type in Summerville, SC and hit your return button.
On the next page you have a menu choice, under "Travel" click on "Hotels".
The next page will show Summerville as the location and will indicate that there are 28 hotel/motels. (This is within a twenty five mile radius of Summerville, that’s why you also get Ladson/Goose Creek and North Charleston.) This page also has a "Web trap" listed as "Hotelsdiscounts.com", if you enter this web site you can’t back out. Log off and go back to MapQuest.com and start over. What you want to do is click on the folder tab "Listings A-Z". If you want fewer locations then go back to the Yellow Pages and use Summerville, SC 29483 and this will come up with only 12 hotel/motels.
There you have it, this works for any location you want to find accommodations.
Traveling is expensive and I have this money saving tip and it comes from traveling the world for over forty years. Stay in the national hotel/motel chains and use their 1-800 numbers for advance reservations. The reservation people at these numbers have access to rates the local desk clerks don’t even know about. If anybody in your traveling party is considered a "senior" (55 up) then ask for those rates, they are by far the cheapest rates you can get. Make your preferences known for smoking/non-smoking and I always ask for a ground floor room. Be sure and write down the quoted rate and the confirmation number.
The motels that I know that are in the immediate location of Highway 17A and I-26 (Exit 199) are:
Holiday Inn Express 1-800-465-4329
Econo-Lodge 1-800-553-2666
Comfort Inn 1-800-228-5150

Others located a mile or two down the road:

(Located at I-26, Exit 203)
