1. The club ranges are for members, their guests, and competitors in club matches. They are maintained by the membership with club funds and lots of hard work. Please do not abuse or litter the ranges. Place all trash in the barrels provided and pick up your brass. Never leave brass on the ground at the ranges and take down and dispose of all targets when you finish shooting. Please drive only on the roads and park in the proper areas. Never drive over firing berms and members are expected to walk down range to put up targets. Please do not drive on the range!
2. Club members are required to wear their current membership card while on the club ranges; should you not recognize someone, ask to see their membership card. Members are to bring only one guest at a time to the ranges and we expect that guest to apply to join our club if they wish to continue to use our facilities after their second visit (this does not apply to participants in club matches). Members are responsible for their guests and should always make them aware of the club safety rules and proper range etiquette. The last person to leave must lock the gate.
3. The club does not provide targets for members and their guests. You must bring your own targets along with some type of fastening device for them. Only use official! sanctioned style targets and place them in their frames so that the bullet will pass through the center without hitting the supports and at a height to allow the bullet to strike the impact berm and not the ground. Never shoot at any target on or near the ground. The use of bottles, can, plastic jugs, etc. as targets is strictly forbidden. Never shoot at anything that could cause a ricochet. Never shoot at the ground as this can cause the bullet to ricochet over the backstop. Never shoot at the hanging silhouette targets or at the pistol plates with a rifle. Even a .223 will punch holes in them or crater the surface. Never shoot at solid targets closer that 15 yards and take eye precautions because of back splatter. Always use the proper section of the range for the type firearm you are shooting.
4. Before you use the facilities always be sure that there is no one down range. Check to be sure that someone isn't working on an impact berm or working on the range. The fact that the gate was locked does not mean that you are the first and only person on the property. Look for vehicles down range where they could be hidden by mid-range impact berms. Members are always taking time off to work on the range so please be sure the range is clear before you plan to use it.
5. Alcoholic beverages/intoxicating drugs are not allowed on club property. Persons under the influence of these items will not be allowed to shoot and will be removed from the facilities at which time they will be expelled from the club as allowed in the club bylaws.
6. Always practice the first rule of shooting; assume that a firearm is always loaded and never point it at anything that you do not intend to shoot! Firearms should only be loaded when the shooter is at the proper firing point and is ready to begin shooting. When not being fired all firearms are to have their actions open and be placed so that the muzzle is pointed down range. Never touch a firearm when someone is down range! No one is to go forward of the firing line until the range has been made/declared safe. During a match this is the responsibility of the range officer; other times a member should assume the responsibility and call the line. The match director has complete control of the entire range facilities during a club-sponsored match. Members wishing to use a different part of the range are urged to check with the range director prior to their driving out to the range; it just might save you a wasted trip! During range workdays the range is closed to shooting. Members are reminded to check their club calendar for matches, workdays, and hunter safety sessions before planning to drive to the range.
7. Hearing and eye protection is required at all times while shooting or watching a match. Shooters should always check on the requirements of a match by contacting the match director prior to driving to the range. Shooters are expected to have proper equipment for a match and you should always have your firearm sighted properly before you plan to participate in a match. Never assume you will be allowed to sight in prior to the start of a match.
8. Any member that has an accident or encounters any problems at the range must report it to a club officer. Should you encounter an unauthorized person never force the issue or argue; leave the range and contact the Dorchester County Sheriff. Our range facilities are private property and violators will be prosecuted for trespassing. There is no hunting allowed on club properties at any time and no shooting at night. Members are expected to know and understand these rules; should you encounter a member breaking a safety rule try to discuss the problem with the member if possible or contact a club officer so that proper action can be taken to either remove the person and/or the problem.
